Salaries for full-time native English teachers at hagwons or private educational institutions range from 1.8 million won(USD1,500) to 2.4 million won(USD2,000) per month. Private English learning centers with a heavy workload may offer higher salary.
If you are a first-time English teacher applying through EPIK(teaching at schools), the salary starts from 1.8 million won per month .
Private language institutions may pay for their teachers' one-way or round-trip airfare. Some schools do not provide airfare: they hire candidates that are already in Korea, or candidates who offer to pay their own flight.
If you are applying for a school that provides one-way airfare, please make sure you ask the school interviewer about their airfare policy. One-way flight airfare can mean either a flight from your country to South Korea, or a flight from South Korea to your country after you complete 1-year contract.
Even if they offer a flight ticket(or airfare) from your country to South Korea, if you wish to quit or transfer to another work within 6 months, they can ask you to reimburse the airfare.
Your employer may provide free housing. Housing types are as follows:
• A studio-type apartment
• A Shared apartment(2-4 teachers/each teacher has their own room/sharing kitchen & bathroom)
• Housing allowance
Please note that some English schools do not provide housing, but those schools normally pay higher salary to teachers.
The following expenses are generally paid by native English teachers themselves:
• E-2 visa issuance fee
• Public transportation(bus, taxi, KTX train etc.) from Incheon Int'l Airport to the final destination
• E-2 Medical Checks fee
• Alien Registration Card fee
